MSU PRIMARY SCHOOL - GOING STRONG, BEING CREATIVE

On September 10 a large contingent of parents, teachers and students from MSU Demonstration Primary School travelled to Central Plaza shopping center in Khon Khaen where the students competed in futsal and tug of war competitions.

Tug of war competitions are immensely popular in Thailand and can be classed as a showcase event at all and any sports days held, whether at kindergarten level, between faculties at colleges or universities or even at veteran age competitions. They inevitably draw a large crowd and in true Thai style the spirit of the competitors enjoying themselves overshadows who wins and who loses the event.

Still, we must give credit where credit is due. MSU Primary School kindergarten tug of war team successfully defended their champions title won the previous year and should be justifiably proud of their efforts.

On September 13 Director of Mahasarakham Primary School, Associate Professor Dr. Maliwan, presented the winning kindergarten tug of war champions to guests at the opening of an exhibition showing early academic works of students from the school.

The two day exhibition was to show works created by young students not only of paintings but also artwork, objects and toys created from natural materials. The concept of the exhibition is to illustrate to parents and others the abilities of the youngsters to be creative and inventive in their work at an early age.

Students also partook in cooking and baking classes on the first day of the exhibition. The primary school student’s projects and creations aims to encourage positive social, intellectual and emotional development from an early age.

VISITORS WELCOME TO JEWELS OF THE SEA EXHIBITION AT MSU

An exhibition entitled Jewels of the Sea was opened at the MSU Science Museum, Faculty of Science on March 2^nd by MSU President Dr. Supachai Samappito. The exhibition is a collaboration between MSU Faculty of Science and the National Science Museum of Thailand.

The exhibition marked the signing of technical collaborative agreements between MSU and the National Science Museum for human resource development in the fields of survey research, learning development , resources and management.

The agreement includes the promotion of academic knowledge through recognising the importance of publication and networking in transferring knowledge.

A most interesting facet of the agreement is to exchange exhibitions on a yearly basis with the Jewels of the Sea currently exchanged with the Dinosaur Skeleton exhibition.

The Jewels of the Sea exhibition is currently available for viewing during office hours at the MSU Science Museum, Faculty of Science. ....more pics

15TH GENERAL EDUCATION FAIR

On June 23 to 24 MSU Department of Education representatives participated in the 15^th Annual General Education Exhibition at Ubon Ratchathani University.

The Education Exhibition provides an opportunity for high school students to gather information about undergraduate studies from many different institutions. Mahasarakham University’s exhibition proved to be a popular site with recreational activities, games, giveaways and prizes on offer.

 Students and teachers were on hand throughout to offer advice and information to prospective students.

The large exhibition attracted participating educational institutions from throughout Thailand.

JUNIOR ART CAMP AT MSU DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL

Mahasarakham University not only caters for tertiary education. MSU also has a Primary and Secondary Demonstration School. The Primary School, located within the grounds of the old campus, recently held its three day, two night Junior Art Camp #2  from the 4th to the 7th of February.

The Art Camp was opened by MSU President Dr. Supachai Samappito and MSU Primary Demonstration School Principal    Dr. Maliwan Tunapan.

Approximately one hundred and fifty primary school students from Grades one to six attended the camp which aims to give students opportunities to use art to ‘sustain the spirit, dream to use imagination, create an atmosphere of unity, realise the social value of their artwork and understand the benefits of creating art in their free time’.

MSU EDUCATION SERVICES ACTIVE IN KHON KAEN EDUCATION MARKET

For those of us unfamiliar with Thai culture, the markets are an integral part of everyday life in Thai society. People shop at markets all over Thailand to purchase all sorts of goods from fresh meat, fish and vegetables to clothing, footwear and furniture. The markets are a place where many home made/grown goods are sold by individuals/families. Besides the shopping where prices are fair and competitive, the markets are a place where Thai people congregate socially to meet, eat and generally enjoy themselves.

Therefore it should come as no surprise to see MSU Education Services Division representatives recently making their presence known at a two day educational exhibition ‘market’ held at Khon Kaen University at the end of January.

More than eighty-five educational institutions exhibited at the market to showcase their respective wares to a large number of prospective students who travelled from all over north east Thailand to attend. Just like any typical market you see in Thailand, people met, stallholders spruiked the benefits of their product (in this case educational institutions) to attract a crowd and the shoppers or prospective students all had a wonderful time meeting with each other while ‘shopping’ for their future educational institutions.

Showing no disrespect to this event; it is wonderful to see so many educational institutions get together at the ‘educational market’ to give prospective students an opportunity to make serious comparisons while simultaneously providing an entertaining and fun atmosphere of the marketplace. ...more pics

2ND ANNUAL COM BIZ SHOWCASES STUDENTS BUSINESS AND IT SKILLS

On January 17 MSU President Dr. Supachai Samappito opened the 2^nd Annual ComBIZ festival organised by the Faculty of Accountancy and Management.

The MSU Combiz festival was successfully inaugurated twelve months ago due to the lack of a forum accessible to the public and businesses where students could demonstrate their computer related business and information technological abilities as well as showcase products of their work.

The two day ComBIZ festival demonstrates the determination of MSU Faculty of Accountancy and Management to engage students in constructive learning processes which are orientated to real time future careers in computers.

Students do presentations, participate in academic quizzes and erect stalls showcasing displays of information, technology and business systems.

Besides giving the public access to the students work, the well attended ComBIZ festival permits future employers to attend and informally speak with students about their work. ...more pics

56TH ANNUAL NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF ART

On January 10 MSU President Dr. Supachai Samappito opened the north-eastern section of the 56^th Annual National Exhibition of Art competition at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. The exhibition is a part of continuing collaboration with Silpakorn University, Bangkok.

The National Exhibition of Art has been in existence since the 1940’s as a legacy to Professor Silpa Bhirasri. Professor Bhirasri is said to have laid the foundations of modern art education for Thai Youth. In 1943 he became the first Dean of Silkaporn School (now  Silkaporn University) which opened in 1943 teaching Fine Arts only with only one faculty of Painting and Sculpture.

The exhibition encourages competition to encourage Thai youth in the north-east to create art works of high quality and for individuals, as well as the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, to gain recognition in the wider public sphere.

The exhibition will run from January 10 to 26 in building B of the Academic Resource Centre. ...more pics
